Ripley Wind Power Project is a wind energy facility developed by Suncor Energy Products Inc. and Acciona Wind Energy Canada Inc. over approximately 3,600 hectares of lands optioned for wind power development within the Townships of Huron-Kinloss near the Town of Ripley, in south-western Ontario.
The wind power project is a 76 MW wind farm utilizing 38 wind turbines. Each turbine has a rated capacity of 2,000 kilowatts. As part of the project, a 34.5 kiloVolt (kV) collector system installed. A 34.5/69 kV substation was installed to step up the power to 69 kV for transmission to the injection point.
Approximately 26 kilometres of overhead 69 kV power line was built. At the injection point, a 69/230 kV substation was built to interconnect the wind plant to the existing Hydro One 230 kV circuits B22D and B23D to feed the renewable energy into the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator.
It is estimated the wind farm will generate over 216,000 megawatt-hours per year of renewable energy.
