Commercial Operation on January 1, 2011
Kruger Energy Chatham Wind Project is a 99.4 MW wind farm being developed by Kruger Energy Inc on private agricultural land currently optioned for wind power development near the shores of Lake Erie, in the southwest of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
A 34.5 kV underground and overhead electrical line will be installed to carry electricity to the new 34.5/230 kV transformer that will be installed at the substation. From the substation, the power from the new turbines will be transmitted via a 12km 230 kV transmission line and connect to circuit C23Z and C24Z to feed into the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator.
In order to meet the Ministry of the Environment's noise regulations published in October 2008, 18 turbines have been replaced with "Low Noise" turbines resulting in a change of capacity from 101.2 MW to 99.4 MW. When completed, it is estimated this wind farm will generate over 300,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy per year.
