The Ontario Power Authority works closely with our industry partners and a broad range of stakeholders across the province on a variety of activities. Below are current programs, projects and initiatives of the OPA.
Aboriginal Energy Partnerships Program
The Aboriginal Energy Partnership Program helps support First Nation and Métis community participation in the development of renewable energy.
Combined Heat and Power Standard Offer Program (CHPSOP)
The OPA has developed the Combined Heat and Power Standard Offer Program (CHPSOP) to support efficient use of natural gas-fired electricity generating facilities that use CHP technology up to a maximum capacity of 20MW.
Community Conservation Awards
The Community Conservation Awards recognize municipalities for their energy-saving initiatives, and for promoting a culture of conservation throughout their communities.
Community Energy Partnership Program
The CEPP provides financial grants to community groups in Ontario who are developing renewable energy projects.
Conservation Fund
The Conservation Fund supports innovation and creativity in Ontario through financial support for new conservation and demand management programs, practices and technologies.
Energy Recovery Standard Offer Program (ERSOP)
The OPA has developed the Energy Recovery Standard Offer Program (ERSOP) to support efficient generation of electricity from the recovery of otherwise wasted energy sources, up to a maximum capacity of 20 MW.
First Nations and Métis Relations
The OPA and the Ontario Government see First Nations and Métis perspectives as an important dimension in developing and implementing an electricity plan for the province, as it moves to a cleaner, greener system.
FIT and microFIT
The OPA's feed-in tariff or FIT program, which offers long-term contracts to renewable energy producers, is divided into two streams - FIT and microFIT. The FIT Program is for renewable energy projects that can generate more than 10 kilowatts (kW) of electricity. Very small projects, at a home or small business, that can generate 10 kW or less come under the microFIT Program.
Hydroelectric Contract Initiative (HCI)
As part of Ontario's commitment to increase the supply of clean, renewable generation, the OPA's HCI program negotiates new contracts for qualified existing hydroelectric generation facilities in Ontario.
Industrial Accelerator
The Industrial Accelerator program provides financial incentives to eligible companies to encourage investment in major energy-efficiency projects, such as process changes and equipment retrofits.
Industrial Electricity Incentive Program
The Industrial Electricity Incentive (IEI) program is intended to promote growth in the industrial sector by taking advantage of Ontario's strong energy supply. It encourages existing industrial companies to create new jobs and bring new investment to the province in exchange for reduced electricity rates.
Innovation Centre
The Innovation Centre is a showcase for new and innovative technologies, and leadership in energy conservation.
Potential Sale of Environmental Attributes
This is a pilot program to sell, track and audit the sale of a limited number of environmental attributes from renewable energy facilities under contract with the OPA.
