The Municipal Energy Conservation Officer (MECO) initiative began formally with a recommendation by Ontario's first Chief Energy Conservation Officer, Peter Love, in November 2007 for the appointment of Municipal Energy Conservation Officers (MECOs) for every community in Ontario.
Since then, the Ontario Power Authority has maintained a community of practice and has held an ongoing series of dialogues with the MECO working group towards empowering them to bring the benefits of energy conservation to their municipalities. These conversations have been captured in summary notes so the discussions are available to anyone with an interest in encouraging more efficient use of electricity.
Municipalities without representation in this community of practice are welcome to name a representative; a formal designation as a MECO is not a prerequisite for participation but may be helpful to the individual fulfilling the role. The list of official MECO appointments is available on this website.
Communities interested in having a representative join the community of practice, should submit full contact details to: info@powerauthority.on.ca.
