Energy Recovery Standard Offer Program (ERSOP)
September 2011 Update
In accordance with the ERSOP Rules (Section 2.3(e)), the OPA will not be accepting new Applications until it has completed processing of the Launch and Second Tranche Applications and has determined whether there is any remaining Available Capacity.
If it is determined that there is remaining Available Capacity, the OPA will provide five Business Days notice on the website of the reopening of the program for new Applications.
June 16, 2011 Update
Please be advised that the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has posted updated ERSOP documents. The changes to the forms of contract are minor in nature and should not affect the preparation of Applications.
As well, an addendum has been issued for the ERSOP Rules. In response to feedback from stakeholders, the OPA has amended the process for Applications received after the end of the Launch Period and before August 31, 2011 at 5:00 PM (EPT).
The Ontario Power Authority has developed the Energy Recovery Standard Offer Program (ERSOP) to support efficient generation of electricity from recovery of otherwise wasted energy sources, such as unutilized by-products that can be used as fuels. The goal of the ERSOP Program is to facilitate increased development of Energy Recovery Facilities up to a maximum capacity of 20 MW, connected to a Distribution System, and in an area where such generation can be effectively accommodated.
The OPA has allocated 50 MW of capacity for the Launch Period of ERSOP.
The OPA began accepting ERSOP Applications on May 6, 2011. The deadline to apply for the Launch Period is June 30, 2011 at 5:00 p.m (EPT). Instructions on how to submit an Application are included in the Application Form, which can be found on the right-hand side of this webpage.
