The Sudbury District Energy Cogeneration Plant is a 5.0 MW natural gas-fired cogeneration power plant. The plant produces 4.4 MW of thermal energy in the form of steam for seven different steam hosts in downtown Sudbury.

Major equipment consists of the following:

  • Two (2) Caterpillar generator packages fuelled by natural gas
  • Two (2) waste heat recovery systems rated at 2.2 MW (thermal) each
  • Two (2) back up two stage boilers
  • Hot and chilled water district energy piping with an approximate capacity of 15,200 gallons to carry the thermal energy to the host facilities

The plant delivers 12.47kV and is connected to Greater Sudbury Hydro Plus Inc. 19F5 and 19F7 feeders at the Dash Municipal Substation.
