The York Energy Centre is a natural gas-fired, simple cycle, peaking generation facility with a contract capacity of 393.0 MW. The project will be developed on approximately five acres of land located at 18781 Dufferin Street in the Township of King.

The facility will utilize two Siemens SGT6-PAC 5000F combustion turbines that will not require any water to operate and will be equipped with Ultra Low NOx combustors to reduce NOx emissions.

The facility’s cooling needs are met with air coolers. The simple cycle design allows for a short start-up time; it will be able to reach full capacity within 10 to 30 minutes.  The facility will be connected to Hydro One 230 kV circuits B82V and B83V at the Armitage Tap to feed into the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator.

When completed, it is estimated this gas-fired facility will operate between 260 to 1,300 hours annually to meet peak electricity demand.
