Commercial Operation on August 18, 2005

Eastview Landfill Gas Energy Plant owned and operated by Envida Community Energy Inc. is a landfill gas fuelled electricity generating facility located in the City of Guelph.

The facility was originally placed in commercial operation in 2005 with three generating units each with a rated capacity of 925 kW.  The facility is fuelled by landfill gas produced at the Eastview Landfill site owned and operated by the City of Guelph. Because landfill gas production is of a declining nature, the developer originally contracted a reduced electricity generating capacity in the second half of the 20-year contract with the Ontario Power Authority. Due to decline of landfill gas supply faster than originally anticipated, the developer decommissioned one generator in mid-2012 reducing nameplate capacity to 1.85 MW and contract capacity to 1.7 MW three years ahead of its original plan.  The reduction was approved by the OPA through a contract amendment.

The facility is connected to a 13.8 kV distribution feeder owned and operated by Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. This feeder is supplied by Hydro One owned Campbell Transformer Station.
