Commercial Operation on February 1, 2006
GTAA Cogeneration Plant is a 117 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle cogeneration facility that is being built on federal land under the control of Greater Toronto Airports Authority at the Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Major equipment consists of two combustion turbines, two heat recovery (“once-through”) steam generators and one steam turbine. The plant layout has allowed space for the future installation of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) equipment for emissions reduction and control. The proposed facility is connected to the existing Toronto Pearson International Airport’s Central Utility Plant that provides both heating and cooling of the airport complex.
When complete, the facility will generate sufficient electricity and steam for the Toronto Pearson International Airport. The surplus electricity will be supplied to the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator via connections to the local distribution system of Enersource Hydro Mississauga.
