Wind Power
Prince I Wind Power Project (99 MW) - Aweres/Dennis/Pennefather/
Prince TWP
Commercial Operation on September 21, 2006 Prince I Wind Power Project is the first phase of a two-phase wind park developed on over 2,500 hectares of lands optioned for wind power development in the Algoma region within the townships of Aweres, Dennis, Pennefather, and Prince.Phase I of the project has a nameplate capacity of 99 MW. This phase of the wind park utilizes 66 GE wind turbines. Each turbine has a rated capacity of 1,500 kilowatts. As part of the project, approximately 35 circuit kilometres of 34.5 kilovolt (kV) underground cable were installed. The energy will be stepped up to 230 kV in a new substation to be built for transmission via a proposed 11.2 kilometres overhead line to another new substation for connection to a recently completed Great Lakes Power 230 kV circuit K24G to feed into the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator. It is estimated this phase of the wind park will generate approximately 276,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy per year.
