Melancthon I Wind Plant (67.5 MW) - Melancthon TWP
One Of The 45 GE 1.5 MW sle Wind Turbines At The Wind Farm

Commercial Operation on March 4, 2006

Melancthon I Wind Plant is the first Phase of a wind plant developed by Canadian Hydro Developers, Inc. Approximately 2,500 hectares of lands were optioned for wind power development within the Township of Melancthon in southern Ontario.

The Melancthon I Wind Plant is a 67.5 MW wind plant situated in the southern portion of the Melancthon Township, Dufferin County, near the Town of Shelburne. This phase of the project utilizes 45 wind turbines.

Each turbine has a rated capacity of 1,500 kilowatts. As part of the project a 34.5 kiloVolt (kV) underground and aboveground collector system, approximately 17 kilometres of 34.5 kV overhead transmission line, and a 34.5/230 kV substation have been installed to interconnect the wind plant to the existing Hydro One 230 kV circuit B4V to feed the renewable energy into the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator.

It is estimated this phase of the wind farm will generate over 177,000 megawatt-hours per year of renewable energy.
