Wind Power
Kruger Energy Port Alma Wind Power Project (101.2 MW) - Port Alma
Commercial Operation on October 31, 2008 The project utilizes 44 Siemens 2.3 MW Mark II wind turbines (pictured left). Each turbine has a rated capacity of 2,300 kilowatts. An electrical collection system which includes both underground cables and overhead power lines was installed to connect the turbines. A substation was built to step-up the power to transmission level voltage and approximately 10 kilometres of transmission line was built for connection to the Hydro One owned 230 kV circuits about 10 kilometres east of Tilbury. The power will be fed into the Ontario electricity market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator. It is estimated this wind farm will generate approximately 300,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy per year.
