Since 2007, the Ontario Power Authority has been encouraging the province’s municipalities to appoint Municipal Energy Conservation Officers (MECOs), responsible for engaging communities at the local level in creating a culture of conservation.

The Conservation Bureau provided leadership for the planning and coordination of conservation in Ontario from 2005 to June 2009. It focused on leadership and awareness of conservation, promoting legal and policy opportunities to reduce barriers to conservation, and reporting.
