This report highlights the significant progress towards Ontario’s conservation goals that was made through OPA-funded conservation initiatives implemented in 2008.
Conservation has an important role to play in meeting our power needs. This brochure explains what is meant by conservation, why we need to conserve electricity, the benefits of conservation and what you can do to start conserving electricity.
The Ontario Power Authority is involved in a host of conservation initiatives for many different sectors – including the Conservation and Technology Development Funds, the BOMA Toronto CDM program, the Cool Savings Rebate, demand response programs, Electricity Conservation on Ontario Farms newsletter, housing initiatives, and a new construction program.
Every Kilowatt Counts is an online resource with information about programs, services and actions you can take to achieve greater efficiency in your home and business. You’ll also learn about the benefits of energy efficiency.
The Conservation Bureau provided leadership for the planning and coordination of conservation in Ontario from 2005 to June 2009. It focused on leadership and awareness of conservation, promoting legal and policy opportunities to reduce barriers to conservation, and reporting.
Evaluation, Measurement and Verification is the undertaking of studies and activities aimed at assessing the impacts (e.g. energy and demand savings) and effectiveness of a Conservation program on its participants and/or the market.

Since 2007, the Ontario Power Authority has been encouraging the province’s municipalities to appoint Municipal Energy Conservation Officers (MECOs), responsible for engaging communities at the local level in creating a culture of conservation.
